A global kitchen equipment major wanted to develop new innovative interfaces to their very successful home coffee brewer. The marketing team conceived a new concept to automatically dispense the right amount of coffee based on the size of the cup placed under the dispenser

Axiom was asked to research and establish feasibility of the concepts. After establishing feasibility the next step was to design and develop a prototype for consumer behavior testing

Project Highlights :

• Brainstorm and establish feasibility of sensing using low cost sensing technologies
  
• Brainstorm and shortlist an appropriate cup and coffee level sensing technology
  
• Developed a simplified optical sensing strategy for delivering the right dosage for a cup
  
• Developed filtering algorithms to improve the accuracy of dosage
  
• Built early mockups to shortlist the technology direction from IR sensing , Optical distance Sensing etc.,
  
• Built a proof of concept using the shortlisted direction
  
• The unit was designed for dispensing various strengths of coffee and for
• various shapes and sizes of cups
  
• Fully functional prototype development was developed and tested

Results :

This prototype was sent to the customer for consumer behaviour trails
