A South Asian 2 wheeler wanted to showcase a high end electric 3 wheeler in the Delhi Auto Expo. It was decided to add this new concept vehicle to the auto show list about 3 months before the show date which called for rapid development with of course no date extension as it was for an expo.
Axiom was contracted to develop several concepts for the show vehicle. This was followed by surface modeling for the chosen design and developing detailed 3D models and sections for wooden pattern development.
These patterns were then used for FRP layups.
The chassis was designed and engineered to be road worthy to carry the battery and motor loads as well people abuse in the auto expo. All the components were prototyped using various techniques from FRP layups to Rapid Prototyping. The components were finished and painted using high quality paint booths and drying stations. The components and subsystems were assembled in the Axiom’s prototyping facility.
The impact of various design elements on the drop performance was simulated using the validated FE model. The package was redesigned based on the outcomes and directions of the above Design of Experiments (DoE) study. The redesigned package was prototyped and tested to clear all the structural requirements of the package.
