In India most of the urban homes are fitted with Un-Interrupted Power Supplies (UPS). These UPS’ generally support moderate loads such as lamps,TV etc (generally in the range of around 700VA - 1KVA) . Its a time consuming task to re do the electric wiring of the house to separate the loads that can be supported by UPS and those that cannot be. This device was designed to control the power to heavy loads by switching them off when the electric power supply switches from line AC to UPS AC
Axiom was involved in design and development of this load management system which controls the power to the heavy loads by switching it off when the mains power is off. This was developed for a global consumer goods company.
This Switch is an add-on device to any plug point where heavy loads such as Air Conditioners, heaters, refrigerators are connected .
Project Highlights
-
Brainstorm and shortlist an appropriate strategy to distinguish mains and UPS power
-
Built early prototypes to test the concepts
-
Built refined prototype of the short listed concept for initial product testing
-
Developed a Progressive Slope Detection Algorithm to distinguish Mains Power and UPS power
-
This Algorithm led to the use of 8 bit controllers for faster decision time and lower cost
-
Prototype development of the system for field testing
-
Assembly , Deployment and Testing with 5 major brands of UPS
Result
The product has progressed from design phase to manufacturing phase
