We view Social Responsibility with seriousness at Axiom. Collectively we enjoy the pleasure of contributing to our local communities and creating a positive impact. In particular Social Responsibility at Axiom revolves around the following subjects:
Primary Education
More than half our population is not literate. This will pose significant challenges to the nation in the coming decades. More importantly, children who belong to lower income families are the most affected. They grow up in challenging environments with little or no opportunity for effective intervention or learning. Our study of the landscape for imparting education to children in these segments reveals significant problems. A key problem is the absence of a structured curriculum and a framework to track the effectiveness of funding. In essence, these two factors make it very difficult to pin down accountability.
At Axiom, our vision is to work with educators and different bodies to evolve an effective framework to impart education. This framework would include a standardized curriculum, an effective way to tie funding to the proper implementation of the curriculum and most importantly build a structure of accountability that can bring about change in a systematic manner. We have begun this journey by tying up with certain institutions who have already been doing some great work and dovetailing our vision into their execution plan. We hope to have critical learnings over the next year. These will allow us to develop strategies for a sustainable platform for roll out while replicating success.
Early Intervention to Manage Learning Disabilities
In our studies with the landscape for learning programs available for young children from lower income families, we also came across several instances where the children required early intervention and diagnosis to assess learning disabilities. Often, these are ignored until its too late. A key part of our vision is to identify learning disabilities early on, work with the expert ecosystem to diagnose and evolve intervention plans and work with the parents to educate them on the importance of such action. Tying these activities with our broader vision for standardizing curriculums and bringing in accountability will be key to ensuring success in this initiative. Today Axiom works with the Samyukta Child Development Center (http://www.samyuktacdc.com/) to evolve early intervention plans for children.
Inculcating Innovation Values in Society
Innovation is a core value system at Axiom. We believe the building blocks of innovation are laid at a very young age. Our innovation board Game I'Quo is a step in that direction. The game exposes children to various dimensions of imagination and paves the way (we believe) for a curious, inquisitive and open mind. Over time we propose to increase the exposure of younger children in schools to 'innovation and invention' through innovative childrens theatre that inspires. Another abiding vision at Axiom is - 'A Model shop in every school'.
Axiom also endorses and applauds the fine work being done by other creative entrepreneurs in the area of innovation training. One such organization is Evolving Minds (www.evolvingminds.org), promoted by Anand, an electronics professional turned entrepreneur.
